Request for Information (RFI) to improve hiring for San Francisco

After several months of discovery work and prototyping discrete interventions, we are thrilled to be starting conversations with the vendor community through an RFI which you can find here.

Why an RFI?

It’s critical for the City to find the right partners. An RFI is a great place to start when trying to get internal stakeholders and external vendors comfortable with a process they are not used to. As compared to RFPs, RFIs have fewer requirements that need to be met and will allow us to start a conversation with vendors without locking anyone into anything. We hope to use this process to inform traditional government vendors of the new modular approach we are adopting while educating non-traditional vendors on the nuances of working with government.

What happens after the responses are submitted?

The Hiring Modernization Project Steering Committee, key departments, and project leads will review the submissions and decide on the best strategy moving forward.

Collaboration and being open are central to this project, so we encourage you to check back (or follow this blog) to not only receive updates but also hear about other ways of engaging with us and the rest of the community — here are a couple examples of what we are considering:

  • Hosting an event (online or in-person) to bring all interested vendors together. This will provide us with an opportunity to continue the conversation face-to-face.
  • Organizing small prototypes with interested vendors to better understand how their products/services perform in the City’s context.

We look forward to having the opportunity to work closely with you to improve hiring for the City and County of San Francisco! As always, if you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the project team at: monique.baena-tan@sfgov.org.

-Micki Callahan, Human Resources Director, City and County of San Francisco
