The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Since we last gave you an update, the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) has started churning with some of our non-civil service opportunities. This means that we have started bringing real-world users, real jobs, and real life candidates into our system. While we haven’t had the opportunity to use our “Merit Bridge” Eligible List and Certification tool just yet, reaction to the ATS has been extremely positive, while also allowing users, some of which have never used an ATS, to provide meaningful feedback and direction.

Some initial numbers after a month of piloting the new applicant tracking system solution.

User acceptance has grown organically with new teams, offices, and departments asking to become part of this pilot process, to get a chance to kick the tires on this new tool before anyone else. Like any software pilot, the results aren’t only rosy, and that is to be both expected and desired. The purpose of a pilot is to identify areas for improvement while they are easy to fix. The core team is continuously collecting feedback from the pilot users, that now include entire hiring teams, and actively making configuration changes in real-time. If you are interested in work with a fulfilling purpose, and to see the new ATS in action, check out some of the pilot positions on our growing career page.

This article is titled “The Light at the End of the Tunnel,” so we should probably tell you what that is. The Civil Service hiring tool, “Merit Bridge” is in the final stages of initial development and deployment and we are scheduling another round of User Acceptance Testing for that application in the coming weeks. Deploying Merit Bridge is the last stage of the initial implementation of the Hiring Modernization Project (also known as ATS Implementation). This is not to say that the bigger project is close to nearing completion, but it means that the experience for San Francisco’s 30,000+ Employees — and hundreds of thousands of job candidates — is about to get much better, and that is only a couple of months away.
