Wrapping up the discovery phase
Over the past few months we have been working to ensure that all the organizational pieces are in place to make this project successful including 1) onboarding new team members, 2) briefing key decision-makers on the proposed path forward and 3) organizing sessions to help the broader team gain a strong understanding of the vendor landscape (and recent developments in the HR tech space). This work has been key since our initial engagement with the City and County of San Francisco is wrapping up and the project is getting closer to implementation.
We end this phase honored to have had the opportunity to work on this project with so many great City employees and incredibly thankful to leadership and staff for all their time and support and to have trusted us with this initiative. Looking towards the future, we couldn’t be more excited about the path ahead and are hopeful that we will have the opportunity to work on the hiring modernization project again!
As a quick recap for those who joined late (or those who need a refresher), we have tried to bring another perspective looking at the hiring process through a more user-centered lens and to approach HR in a more data-driven way. More specifically, here are some of the key milestones met along the way:
- Conducted workshops to understand the as-is hiring process (translated into an end-to-end journey map) and to unpack pain points different users experience with it
- With input from our stakeholders, created a vision (north star) for what we want future candidates to experience when applying to a job at the City and County of San Francisco
- Broke the hiring process down into service modules to help structure a conversation around adopting a more modular approach and what it means to procure extensible technology (having tools that can easily speak to one another)
- Published an RFI to start a conversation with the vendor community to ensure there is indeed appetite in the marketplace for this more modular, iterative approach
- Synthesized the RFI responses and helped disseminate that information to key stakeholders stressing the importance of 1) procuring technology that assumes it will need to easily speak to/with other systems, 2) integrating in a seamless way with PeopleSoft so that over time more data can flow back and forth without the need to create additional pipes, and 3) working with partners who approach their work in an iterative research-driven way
- Helped secure seed funding and made recommendation as how to structure implementation phase and procurement of key systems
We care a lot about this project so never hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or want to discuss any of the research included above. We look forward to being in touch!
